ING Direct Cafe Main
Global finance giant ING Direct is opening cafés in major cities in which customers can stop in for a coffee and maybe open a savings accounts while they're at it. In keeping with this thoroughly contemporary business model, the tenant space includes several timely architectural features that are designed to convey the feeling of a stress-free and fun banking experience. Large roll-up doors open along the facade to give the feel of an outdoor setting in the warmer months. New structural supports carry their weight. An orange ring emblematic of ING's corporate ID hangs from the ceiling and is calibrated to hold heavy objects (a Mini Cooper was proposed as one such object) for decorative purposes. Shmerykowsky designed framing sufficient to manage a variety of loads.
